Evolution of Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW)

Development of Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW)  Ã‚ EVOLUTION OF SUBSTRATE INTEGRATED WAVEGUIDE STRUCTURES: AN OVERVIEW , and Unique †Substrate incorporated waveguide(SIW) is the most dazzling innovation for simple reconciliation onto planar substrates for millimeter wave segments and frameworks for the following decade. This guide is incorporated on the substrate with varieties of metallic posts holding the low misfortune preferred position of traditional rectangular waveguides. In this paper, different developing structures of SIW which had been executed for different handy applications like channels, couplers, reception apparatuses and so on are looked into and some progressing ventures dependent on this innovation are likewise introduced. List Terms â€Â Filters, couplers, substrate incorporated waveguide (SIW) Presentation Metallic waveguides are favored over conventional transmission lines like coaxial links wherein high misfortunes are accounted, in particular, copper misfortunes and dielectric misfortunes [1]. Metallic waveguides acquire the benefit of high force taking care of capacity and high Q-factor [2]. Despite its previously mentioned focal points, it isn't yet a promising innovation as a result of its massive and non planar nature [3]. Space like planar printed transmission lines are close to metallic waveguides utilized in microwave coordinated circuits (MICs). These were planar in nature however not reasonable at littler frequencies because of its transmission misfortunes [4].â  To overcome any issues, SIW is presented, an extremely encouraging waveguide structure which keeps up the upsides of a rectangular waveguide, for example, high Q-factor and high force taking care of capacity in planar structure [5-7]. Fundamentally in SIW, two equal metallic layers of substrate are associated by means of metallic presents presenting structure comparative on basic metallic waveguides. Conventionally, the substrate coordinated waveguides (SIW) are known as substrate incorporated circuits (SICs) [8]. SIW is the most famous topology among others relatives of SICs on the grounds that the structure strategies of rectangular waveguide can be applied straightforwardly to this topology. The SIW innovation has been executed with millimeter and microwave segments as it is reasonable for high recurrence run in light of its accounted spillage misfortunes at low recurrence. They can be legitimately associated with planar circuits, specifically, smaller scale strip line and coplana r waveguides (CPW), taking into account simple combination of dynamic circuits consequently making it reasonable for large scale manufacturing . In this paper, advancements of SIW structures are considered and diverse use of SIW innovation are introduced, and some progressing ventures are talked about later. Advancement OF SIW STRUCTURE At millimeter wave recurrence, electromagnetic coupling between building squares of recieving wire makes planning a basic issue. To give incredible arrangement of adaptability to planning of segments, idea of SICs is presented. SIW, which are integrated on planar substrate in which metallic posts are punctured in the inserted substrate utilizing printed circuit board innovation appeared in fig.1. [9] Fig.1. Substrate Integrated Waveguide The consistent and steady ascent of remote client has fuelled an expansion in remote applications. For the satisfaction of expanding everyday necessities of correspondence, different advancing structures of SIW are proposed. Substrate incorporated chunk waveguide (SISW), another variation in the SIW toolbox is thus presented [10]. The structure offers an expansion in data transmission by including air gaps into a SIW fundamentally for wideband microwave applications. Contrasted with rectangular waveguides, a size decrease of is accomplished with SIW. Lamentably, SIW are still huge (contrasted with their smaller scale strip partners) for different down to earth applications and consequently substrate coordinated collapsed waveguide (SIFW) is proposed [11]. In SIFW size decrease of (9) is accomplished by utilizing double layer substrate however its misfortunes are expanded. Additionally there are half mode substrate incorporated waveguides (HMSIW) [12] which expands the data transfer c apacity and can likewise have a diminished size while keeping up the upsides of SIW. As of late after HMSIW, collapsed half wave substrate coordinated waveguide (FHMSIW) is proposed however there are multifaceted nature issues which should be fathomed [13].For powerful use of waveguide channel, mixture SIW is proposed in which waveguide channel use is expanded by steering a strip line inside the substrate [14]. Novel class of data transfer capacity improving structures are proposed, in particular furrowed substrate incorporated waveguide (RSIW) [15] appeared in Fig.3 and furrowed substrate coordinated section waveguide (RSISW) [16].In previous structure, side dividers of top and base metal layers are associated by full stature metallic posts and focal line of halfway heighted metallic posts are associated at their base by a metal strip. The last structure is having the comparable geometry of RSIW yet extra air openings are incorporated to additionally expand the transmission capacit y. Likewise there are disliked structures like honeycomb substrate coordinated waveguide (HCSIW) and collapsed creased substrate incorporated waveguide (FCSIW). HCSIW makes halfway low dielectric district by boring air filled posts vertically [17] and FCSIW is utilized for back projection concealment [18]. For two distinct methods of proliferation, switchable substrate incorporated waveguide (SSIW) (by means of the biasing of pin diode switch) is presented [19]. Another variation of HMSIW is turned HMSIW, to improve the assembling resiliences by empowering direct association with wave vitality at main issue which isn't practical for the structures talked about earlier[20]. As of late, Butterfly substrate coordinated waveguide; another variation has been added to the SIW toolbox for better addition and low side projection levels. [21]. Most recent variation added to the SIW toolbox is vacant SIW (ESIW). This structure disposes of the disservices of dielectric substrate by supplanting it by novel void substrate (air filled) while keeping up the upside of complete coordination in planar substrate [22]. Diagrams of significant designs of SIW are appeared in fig.2. [11], fig.3.[15] and fig.4[21]. Fig.2. SIW Main Variants Fig.3.RSIW Structure Fig.4.Butterfly substrate coordinated waveguide FUTURE TRENDS IN SIW SIW, an exceptionally encouraging innovation has been actualized for some, reasonable applications like SIW based shifters, oscillators, resonators, channels, power dividers, diplexers, blender, recieving wires and a lot more [23-30]. At present there were numerous continuous ventures in progress dependent on SIW innovation. A not many have been referenced here in this paper. Productive combination and plan of reconfigurable miniaturized scale electro mechanical frameworks (MEMS) based band pass channel (BPF) in SIW innovation [31] is one of the progressing ventures. This undertaking is centered around the advancement of novel microwave and millimeter wave completely reconfigurable BPF on SIW with the goal that favorable circumstances of scaling down, simple coordination onto planar substrates, low misfortunes, high influence taking care of can be accomplished. This task attempts to consolidate the benefits of novel brush line SIW resonators with the upgraded attributes of MEMS varac tors to tune the reaction of coupled resonator channels. These channels are key parts of rising RF front finishes for future media transmission frameworks. SOSRAD-77GHz SIW framework on substrates (SOS) radar front end is the other continuous task dependent on SIW [32]. The point of the venture is to set up SIW innovation as the main superior stage to incorporate every single accessible innovation inside a typical substrate at mm-wave frequencies. A portion of the finished activities on SIW innovation are expressed; incorporated centering frameworks in SIW innovation: full wave demonstrating and improvement [33] and Design and advancement of SIW based RF circuits and parts utilizing metamaterials in ku-band application [34]. ACT in 10th Grade

Should You Start Prepping for the SAT/ACT in tenth Grade SAT/ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Being fruitful on the SAT and ACT is about the planning you put into it.While you likely knowit'sa legend to figure you can't read for these tests, you probably won't understand that the converse is valid - reading is uncommonly significant for excelling on the SAT or ACT. That is the reason it's a truly savvy thought to prepfor the SAT/ACT as a sophomore. We should discuss why prep is so significant for these tests, what you can do in tenth grade, and what your most accommodating examination timetable should look like over the school year and past. In the first place, when will you be taking the SAT or ACT? When Should You Take the SAT/ACT? At the point when you should prepare has a ton to do with when you're intending to take the SAT or ACT. Regularly, numerous understudies decide to take the SAT or ACT without precedent for the fall of junior year. That way they can take it again in the spring of junior year to improve their scores. On the off chance that they despite everything have opportunity to get better, they can take it again in the fall of senior year. Since your school cutoff times are presumably in the fall or winter of senior year, that last test would be your last opportunity to improve your scores. That can squeeze those three test dates. On the off chance that you need to leave yourself increasingly accessible test dates to improve your scores, or even get the tests over with before senior year, you may decide to take the SAT or ACT significantly before, as in the fall or spring of sophomore year. Regardless of whether you take the SAT/ACT just because as a sophomore or junior, you certainly need to exploit sophomore year and the late spring after to prepare for the SAT/ACT. At any rate 40 hours of test prep is a smart thought to begin, yet stirring your way up to at least 100 hours of test prep will truly profit you and assist you with arriving at your objective scores. As opposed to pushing this off and packing in the weeks prior to your first date, you'll be best served byspreading out this test prep throughout sophomore year. We should investigate why prep is so significant for these tests. Prep and the SAT/ACT The SAT/ACT are dislike any tests you take in secondary school. While they identify with the aptitudes and information you've created in your classes, such as understanding perception, math, and composing, they are one of a kind in the manner they word questions, present data, and force exacting time limits. These two tests additionally have some key differencesfrom one another. Centered test prep with authentic example addresses will help you in various manners, just as raise your score several focuses above what it would be on the off chance that you stepped through the examinations without earlier considering. You can utilize SAT and ACT Questions of the Day, download official SAT and ACT practice tests, and attempt test SAT and ACT online practice questions. PrepScholar alters its online test prep for understudies at all evaluation levels and causes you with week after week progress reports and the additional alternative of a one-on-one guide. At long last, numerous understudies additionally use SAT books and ACT books to audit ideas and attempt practice questions. Studyingwill assist you with acing the substance, learn imperative time the board abilities, and recognize and drill your shortcomings. The entirety of this takes a very long time to achieve effectively, so the opportunity to prepare is sophomore year, if not much prior. How about we experience the stuff to excel on these tests. Prep to ace the substance. Ace the Content As referenced over, the SAT and ACTare exceptional in their planning and the manner in which they word questions. Fortunately, there's a huge amount of data out there clarifying the substance and configuration of the tests. By acclimating yourself with the tests, you can know specificallyhow numerous Critical Reading addresses you'll reply in how long or precisely what you have to know for the ACT Science segment. On the off chance that you prep for 2 to 3 hours every week all through sophomore year, at that point you'll have the option to audit the ideas, apply them to rehearse issues, and fix any examples of mix-ups or disarray. Other than auditing content, test prep will likewise assist you with responding to questions rapidly and productively after some time. Assume Responsibility for Time Other than the regularly precarious, extraordinary wording and material on the tests, they likewise are testing a result of their exacting time limits. You most likely aren't familiar with possessing such short energy for math, perusing, or composing. That is the reason taking practice tests under coordinated conditions can assist you with showing signs of improvement and better at pacing and responding to questions both rapidly and completely. You can learn and evaluate the best strategies for drafting a SAT paper in just 25 minutes, or gain proficiency with the best ways to deal with read and answer inquiries on 4 ACT Reading entries in just 35 minutes. As you prep all through sophomore year, set aside the effort to sit for a training test under reproduced planned conditions. Sit in a peaceful space without any interruptions, and try to submit to your time limits. Evaluate various methodologies and make sense of what works for you. As you decide your best methodologies, you can likewise be watching out for your qualities and shortcomings. Evaluate Your Strengths The entirety of the aptitudes tried on the SAT and ACT set aside some effort to pinpoint and create. Furthermore goodstudying includes a specific measure of self-reflection. Ask yourself, What am I acceptable at? Where are my shortcomings? Do I keep getting stumbled over dangling modifiers, or do properties of triangles befuddle me without fail? When you've set aside the effort to recognize your zones of progress, you can try to fill in any information holes and drill them with training issues. Since this sort of exhaustive prep requires some investment and exertion to attempt, it's very a decent ideato start sophomore year. You won't be up to speed in the remainder of the school procedure, and you most likely won't have a caseload of as trying classes as you take junior year.Plus in case you're taking the SAT/ACT in the fall of junior year, you would prefer not to stroll into absolutely ill-equipped. A truly low first score could look awful to universities on the off chance that you need to send them all your score reports, in addition to it could raise warnings to the College Board/ACT. Putting off getting ready for a test just prompts more pressure and weight later on. Rather than hesitating, you can begin on test prep now in tenth grade when it's not all that critical and you can adopt an increasingly loosened up strategy. Not exclusively will preparing for the SAT/ACT assist you with performing admirably on the tests and not get overpowered in th grade, it likewise will probably strengthen your comprehension of and devotion to your tenth grade classes. We should investigate how the SAT/ACT are associated with your sophomore year classes. Exceed expectations inYour tenth Grade Classes While these tests are remarkable, they do test a great deal of the material you're learning in tenth grade. In case you're in polynomial math or geometry, for instance, both of those subjects will be on the tests. You additionally are very likely perusing and examining works from different sorts in English classes, just as acing the 5 section convincing exposition. Rehearsing these abilities with regards to the SAT/ACT could solve two problems at once. You'll strengthen your comprehension in your classes, while simultaneously get yourself arranged for these significant tests. You could likewise attempt to get a headstart on ideas you'll handle junior year. For example, the ACT covers some trigonometry. By assessing these ideas and attempting practice issues, you'll be prepared to plunge into a trigonometry class in th grade. Getting ready for the SAT/ACT in tenth grade will permit you to feel prepared and certain when you step through the examination, likely in the fall of junior year. While I've addressed the reasons prep is so significant, I'll additionally propose an arrangement of assault for achieving this - acing the substance, dealing with your time, recognizing your qualities and shortcomings, and fortifying the exercises you learn in class. Sophomore Year Plan of Action So you realize prep is significant, and you know when you're going to take your first SAT or ACT. How might you structure an adequate report plan, and how might you ensure you stick to it? At the no frills least, understudies ought to give at any rate ten hours of prep before taking the SAT or ACT. In any case, this won't give you significantly more than an essential nature with the configuration and timing of the test. As referenced over, 40 hours is a decent gauge for exploring ideas, however 100+ hours will get you more profound into content and your own qualities and shortcomings. There are around 40 weeks in the school year, so in the event that you can commit 2 to 3 hours of test prep seven days, at that point you'll effectively meet this objective of 100 hours. Obviously, this relies upon how bustling your calendar is. Different understudies like to begin moderate, with an hour anywhere, and thenramp up their test prep toward the finish of sophomore year and over the mid year. This can work in the event that you have additional available time over the mid year and can keep up the order to concentrate during summer get-away. The most ideal approach to adhere to your examination plan is to make it a piece of your everyday practice. Saving a particular time for test prep on a specific day consistently and recording it in your task note pad or organizer will assist you with making it a propensity. Besides an additional advantage is that your time will truly include. Rather than getting overpowered with a huge amount of test prep at last, you'll gradually develop your aptitudes and information and have the option to move toward the tests with certainty. To Sum Up... Sophomore year is the ideal opportunity for test prep. Most understudies take their first SAT/ACT in the fall of junior year. Since these tests require a decent arrangement of prep to excel on, you can spread out your prep throughout tenth grade and the accompanying summer. Set aside the effort to survey ideas, keep up in class, and make SAT/ACT prep a piece of your daily practice. Rather than lingering and using up all available time, help Future You out and put in the exertion presently to meet your objectives later. Devotion and duty to your objective

The Best New Years Career Resolutions for People in Their 30s

The Best New Years Career Resolutions for People in Their 30s When you think of a year having 365 days, or 52 weeks, you would think that you have ample time to achieve your goals.Add to that the life expectancy in the US of 78.6 years and you have lots of time. Right? If you have all that timeâ€"a lot of time indeedâ€"how come you don’t get to achieve those things you set your heart upon? How come the end of the year comes upon you so suddenly like a thief? Is it a lack of planning? Is it the lack of good goals, smart goals or realistic goals? And if so, then which goals are realistic? And just who gets to decide this anyway? The fact that some people have achieved what the majority think is impossible is evidence that goals are individual. For that reason, a “realistic” goal is only as realistic as you determine it to be.Consider the below examples of people who beat all odds to achieve what they wanted in life.Stephen Hawking beat disabilities and battled Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis to continue with research and teaching using electronic devices. He had to train his mind to do things differently.Marla Runyan, legally blind from childhood, never stopped education. And when she joined sports, she came out with 5 gold medals for the Paralympics, has run in the Olympics and several marathons.Dominic O’Brien became an 8-time World Memory Champion with a Guinness World Record for memorizing the order of 54 shuffled packs of playing cards (2,808 cards) after viewing them just once. He also got the Brain of the Year and the Grand Master of Memory awards.Soichiro Honda left home at 15, worked as an apprentice for 6 years then started his own auto repair business at 22. Forming the Honda Motor Company while 42, it only took him 10 years for his company to become a leading motorcycle manufacturer in the world.Aren’t these the kind of people who motivate you? Aren’t their stories the ones which make you want to strip your life of everything and run towards your goal with 100% focus? But somehow, you don’t do that. Many re asons can be given for that. Maybe some of them are excuses. The Need for Goals in LifeDespite all the different philosophies and theories, one fact stands unopposed. You must have goals in life. This is not for the sake of fitting in. Many people have new year’s resolutions but few achieve them. So get out of the mob psychology and have a solid reason as to why you need new year’s resolutions.Life is a journey and never a destination. That means that you should not only think of life in terms of where you are going, but also how you get there. What you go through to get there. The challenges and victories. These are important and they are what define life.A failure to appreciate the journey makes you lose the strength to get to the destination. This is why you may be giving up so often because you face challenges. The problem is that you expect not to face challenges. Yet those challenges are what make you the right person for the destination. Have you ever noticed that only a certai n kind of people are in certain places?Look at successful business people. If you look into their lives, you’ll notice that they have some similarities. Yes, they have their differences but some things are common across the board.Look into the private lives of successful sportsmen and women. Ignore the scandals some of them are faced with. Do you know that they develop themselves for the success? That development comes through appreciating the journey. They embrace the challenges and work through them. So, the journey is important. But the destination is also important. Why?Because it is what determines the journey you take. The destination determines the path you take. If going to the coffee shop, you can walk. But if going to another continent, you fly. Those are two different journeys and they are determined by the destination.NEW YEAR CAREER RESOLUTIONSIn making new year’s resolutions, decide one thing this time round. You will embrace the journey. You will fight to get to the des tination but will also appreciate everything that comes your way.As you make your very personal career resolutions, here are some foundational ones to consider. These are not necessarily telling you how to make your career better. They are telling you the ingredients to ensuring the resolutions you make work.As you go through these, you’ll see how they tie in with the rest of your goals.Learn from the PastBeing in your 30s is very different from being in your 20s. You are more than a decade older now. Congratulations. So, are you better than you had been in the past decade? If you started working at 25, how have you progressed this far? Can you pinpoint specific moments of victory and loss? One of the most important things about progress is learning. You can never outgrow learning. Even in old age, with gray hair, there will still be something to learn. You can however stop learning if you decide there is no need for it. Fortunately, you haven’t gotten to that point, otherwise you w ouldn’t be reading this.To learn from the past, consider the below:1. What workedYou have definitely experienced victories in your life this far. But did you take time to find out just how you attained those successes? Did you think about the processes you followed? Did you give thought to the challenges you faced and how you overcame them? This is the right time to do this in case you didn’t. You see, in your 30s, you have tried what you first believed and now have an opportunity to make appropriate changes. If you noticed some methods or tools working well, then stick to those. But as you do, try and improve them. See where they fall short and strengthen them accordingly. Because if you are serious about achieving your life goals, more challenges lie ahead.2. What didn’t workFrom all the things you tried and have been trying, you must have noticed that some just never work. Maybe you’ve been using methods someone told you worked for them, even though they don’t work for yo u. It might be time to drop them. When you try fitting yourself into something which isn’t really fitting, you are actually working towards your own failure. The biggest thing you are risking is your confidence levels. You are trying to please the person by applying his advice even though it’s not working.Don’t waste any more time. Look for what works for you and embrace it.You can ask more people how they do things. You can check online for opinions and reviews.Better still, you can utilize your creativity and come up with unique ways of getting ahead.Work on Your Financial DisciplineMoney is not everything. It is not the measure of success. Noble examples like Mother Teresa prove this. But that doesn’t mean that money is not important. In fact, anyone claiming that money is not important will be lying. No-one wants to live in poverty. And yes, poverty is not the lack of money. It is mainly a mentality issue. But there is more to money that this.Diving slightly deeper, money do es more than buying food. It does more than buying a good home and obviously, it takes care of many problems. Source: PersonalFNFor career purposes, money is necessary for further schooling. It is necessary for dressing like the professional you are, or intend to be. It is necessary for networking in certain circles. This list can be long, but you get the idea.Yet money is not self-managing. It doesn’t have the ability to teach you how best to use it. Unless you use it to learn how to use it.More than that, you just need to mismanage your finances to see what trouble you can get into.Financial impropriety at a personal level can be career wrecking. The levels of stress resulting from it won’t help but show up in the office. If you are struggling to foot your bills, you will not be able to concentrate at work. Meaning you won’t be productive at all due to high stress levels. Is there any way your career will grow in such an environment? Very unlikely.Compare that to the confidence levels you gain when you know that you are not in debt. When you freely help out friends when they are in nee d.When you know that being fired can’t scare you since you have big savings. When you get email updates about the growth of your investments. This confidence is great for a boost in career success.Check your expenses. Have some savings and invest some money. Get yourself covered and see the peace you have while chasing your dreams.Find a MentorAre you humble enough to learn from others? It’s said that experience is the best teacher. But if you are keen enough, you’ll realize that this is not always true. When you make mistakes in your investments and lose your money, is this the best way for you to learn how to invest? No.It would have been better if someone walked you through the dos and don’ts and told you how to go about it.If that happened, then maybe you needed someone who would go the extra mile to teach you what to look for in an investment option.Maybe which investment vehicles are best for your situation. Now, finding such people is not easy. And though you may know some , reaching them might be your biggest problem. You still have to get through the fears of asking them to mentor you.Because the truth is that not every expert is open to mentoring others. So what do you do?Here are two ideas you can try:1. Approach them from a business perspectiveOne thing common with all experts is that they worked hard to become who they are. As such, you cannot get them to work with you if you don’t show value for their expertise. The reason people pay for mentorship is that they understand the value. They are willing to pay for personal guidance and since it cost them, they apply it.Often, what costs you nothing carries very little value to you. So when you approach a potential mentor from this perspective, he sees your need for help. You can be sure you’ll get more than you pay for if you are proactive.2. Learn from them behind the scenesOf course, not everyone who can’t afford conferences is simply not valuing good advice. You might understand the value of what you want but can’t prove it in terms of money at the moment. If this is you, cheer up. Where there is a will, there is a way. But there is still a cost involved, albeit less than the above option calls for.Get to the internet and search up the mentor of your choice. Get to his website and read the material he has there. Check him out on YouTube and follow him on social media. Experts always give tips and so much insight even in tweets. This is because they are full of the knowledge so it just flows out of them. This is what you will harvest. Since you understand the value, you will put it to use.Another avenue for gaining insight from your mentor is by reading his books. Books contain more than what someone can share on a platform. From a book, you can learn the challenges your mentor went through and be encouraged. So, if by some chance you can’t get your favorite mentor to physically walk with you, do it virtually. This is how many experts themselves grow. They learn from each other through many means, including reading their books.Work on Your HealthYou have your eyes set on improving your career. But have you considered improving your health?Do not ignore your health. It is your body that works. It is your mind that thinks through problems and comes up with solutions. It is your eyes which help you read reports and emails. It is your heart that distributes nutrients throughout your body using pumped blood. Can you really afford to neglect the body that does all these and many other things? The answer is no. Here are three things to work on:1. FoodThere has been lots of talk about healthy eating. And there is need for more talk about it. But more importantly, there is need for people to start applying the information they gather from the talks and seminars.Eating healthy is not difficult. It just needs some dedication. Dedication to do away with white rice and embrace brown rice. Avoid white bread and take brown or wholemeal. As far as grains are concerned , just do away with anything white and embrace brown, or even better, whole.Taking fruits and increasing your vegetable intake is quite obvious. Here is a list of nutrients found in popular vegetables. And here is one for popular fruits.Do not ignore the need to take proteins. If conscious of your weight, which is a good thing, go lean. Use steak instead of the usual beef because the fat in it is not good.Take the healthy fat from oily fish and get better eyes and brain cells.2. WaterIf water making up to 60% of your body doesn’t tell you its importance, then you need help. Dehydration affects your brain’s functioning and your muscles too. Also of importance here is the fact that water helps detoxify your body. This body which works so hard to get you to your goals, has some things it needs to get rid of. Without water, your excretory system will not function well enough. Source: USGSNot taking water is an easy way of slowing yourself down. Yet you’re expecting to achieve your new year’s resolutions.3. ExerciseIgnore the toned body and the protruding muscles which serve as proof of how strong you are. Do you know there are more benefits to exercising than these?Do not focus on muscles only. For wholesome success, you have to gain the inward benefits of exercising too. These happen in the mind, heart and yes, body muscles. When your heart is strong, it does its job well. Commit to improving the strength and overall health of your heart through cardiac exercises.Your mind will need mental exercises while your body will do well with physical exercise.Still, physical workout benefits both your heart and mind, even as your muscles gain from it.Divide Your Goals Into Short And Long TermYour goals should be big. In fact, they should be so big that they are scary. If they are not, then you may not be someone worth remembering.Look at the people mentioned a t the beginning of this article. They have achieved serious goals and that has given them much popularity. We are not telling you to seek popularity. We are just pointing out that the reason these people are popular is the kind of goals they achieved. But as good and admirable as big goals and dreams are, they cannot be achieved as they are. This is one of the reasons many people don’t move forward. They listen to successful people talk and want to be like them. Then they develop a desire to succeed quickly. They want big results fast. This is why at the beginning, we told you that you have to anticipate and appreciate the journey.Your big goals need to be broken down in order to be worked on.For example, your big goal may be to have the biggest online marketing business in the country. Bullying Description and Analysis of the Phenomenon Free Essay Example, 2000 words

The violent nature in bullying boys has been noticed and it has been found that boys are likely to be more violent and they can cause injury, therefore bullying by more overt physical means (Benbenishty Astor, 2005, p. 13). Girls, on the other hand, tend to be more covert and devious, utilizing such means as spiteful rumor mongering and telling tales or gossiping (Geffner et al. , 2002, p. 27). Delfabbro et al. (2006) stated that girls are significantly more likely to use non-physical aggression (Delfabbro et al. 2006, p. 72) It has been noticed that the same gender children bully the same gender children as boys are bullied by boys and girls are bullied by girls (Hilarski et al, 2004). It has been found in some cases that although this was the case with boys bullying alone, more females than males were involved in mixed gender group bullying. (Seals and Young, 2003, Discussion section, para. 3). As already mentioned and as the research shows that a greater number of boys are i nvolved in bullying than girls that bully, however, the evidence is contradictory when it comes to noticing whether boys are more prevalent as victims. We will write a custom essay sample on Bullying: Description and Analysis of the Phenomenon or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/page As girls are not violent in bullying however there is evidence that girls experience more verbal bullying and boys more physical (Stanley Aurora, cited in Osler Vincent, 2003, p. 94). The survey conducted by Barone (1993) found that 89.3% of boys had experienced physical abuse, and 67.1% of girls had experienced verbal bullying (Green, 2007, para. 9).

Definition and Examples of Lowercase Letters in English

In the printed alphabet  and orthography, the term lowercase  (sometimes spelled as two words) refers to small letters (a,b,c . . .) as distinguished from capital letters (A,B,C . . . ). Also known as  minuscule  (from Latin  minusculus, rather small). The writing system of English (as in most Western languages) uses a dual alphabet or  bicameral script--that is, a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters. By convention, lowercase is generally used for the letters in all words except for the initial letter in  proper nouns  and in words that begin sentences. (For exceptions, see Names With Unusual Capitalization, below.) Origin and Evolution of Lowercase Letters Originally, lower case letters stood by themselves. Their forms derived from the penned Carolingian minuscule. The upper and lower case letters received their present form in the Renaissance. The serifs of the capitals, or upper case letters, were adapted to those of the lower case alphabet. The capitals are based on an incised or chiseled letter; the lower case characters are based on a pen-written calligraphic form. Now the two kinds of letters appear together. (Jan Tschichold, Treasury of Alphabets and Lettering. Norton, 1995)Upper and lower case? The term comes from the position of the loose metal or wooden letters laid in front of the traditional compositors hands before they were used to form a word—the commonly used ones on an accessible lower level, the capitals above them, waiting their turn. Even with this distinction, the compositor would still have to mind their ps and qs, so alike were they when each letter was dismantled from a block of type and then tossed back into the compartments of a tray. (Simon Garfield, True to Type: How We Fell in Love With Our Letters. The Observer, October 17, 2010) Names With Unusual Capitalization Several coinages provide a new look to English spelling, especially with names. We have never seen anything before quite like the use of a lower-case initial for a brand-name, as in iPod, iPhone, iSense and eBay, or airline companies such as easyJet and jetBlue, and it is not yet clear how to handle them, especially when we want one of these words to begin a sentence. There are precedents for introducing a capital in the middle of a word (as in such names as McDonalds and chemical substances such as CaSi, calcium silicate), but brand names have hugely increased its everyday visibility, as seen in AltaVista, AskJeeves, PlayStation, YouTube and MasterCard. (David Crystal, Spell It Out. Picador, 2012)Brand names or names of companies that are spelled with a lowercase initial letter followed by a capital letter (eBay, iPod iPhone, etc.) need not be capitalized at the beginning of a sentence or heading, though some editors may prefer to reword. This departure from Chicagos former usage re cognizes not only the preferred usage of the owners of most such names but also the fact that such spellings are already capitalized (if on the second letter). Company or product names with additional, internal capitals (sometimes called midcaps) should likewise be left unchanged. (The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed.The University of Chicago Press, 2010)  Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬â€¹ Xerox or xerox? The dropping of the capital letter of the trademark is one piece of certain evidence that the trademark has indeed become generic...The OED [Oxford English Dictionary] lists XEROX both as capitalized, and in lower case, as well as a trademark and generic term: a proprietary name for photocopiers . . . also used loosely to denote any photocopy (20: 676). This definition points out clearly that xerox, either capitalized or in lower case, is used throughout the population as both a proper adjective and as a noun. (Shawn M. Clankie, Brand Name Use in Creative Writing: Genericide or Language Right? in Perspectives on Plagiarism and Intellectual Property in a Postmodern World, ed. Lise Buranen and Alice M. Roy. SUNY Press, 1999)A good rule to follow is that most trademarks are adjectives, not nouns or verbs. Use trademarks as modifiers as in Kleenex tissues or Xerox copiers. Similarly, trademarks are not verbs--you can copy on a Xerox machine, but you cannot xerox anything.(Jill B. Treadwe ll, Public Relations Writing. Sage, 2005) Pronunciation: lo-er-KAS Alternate Spellings: lower case, lower-case

Zoe’s Tale PART I Chapter Two Free Essays

I climbed out onto the roof through my bedroom window and looked back at Hickory. â€Å"Hand me those binoculars,† I said. It did – and then climbed out the window with me. We will write a custom essay sample on Zoe’s Tale PART I Chapter Two or any similar topic only for you Order Now Since you’ve probably never seen it I’ll have you know it’s a pretty impressive sight to watch an Obin unfold itself to get through a window. Very graceful, with no real analogue to any human movement you might want to describe. The universe, it has aliens in it. And they are. (Obin: â€Å"it,† not â€Å"he† or â€Å"she.† Because they’re hermaphrodites. That means male and female sex organs. Go ahead and have your giggle. I’ll wait. Okay, done? Good.) Hickory was on the roof with me; Dickory was outside the house, more or less spotting me in case I should trip or feel suddenly despondent, and then fall or leap off the roof. This is their standard practice when I climb out my window: one with me, one on the ground. And they’re obvious about it; when I was a little kid Mom or Dad would see Dickory blow out the door and hang around just below the roof, and then yell up the stairs for me to get back into my room. Having paranoid alien pals has a downside. For the record: I’ve never fallen off the roof. Well, once. When I was ten. But there were extenuating circumstances. That doesn’t count. Anyway, I didn’t have to worry about either John or Jane telling me to get back into the house this time. They stopped doing that when I became a teenager. Besides, they were the reason I was up on the roof in the first place. â€Å"There they are,† I said, and pointed for Hickory’s benefit. Mom and Dad and my green friend were standing in the middle of our sorghum field, a few hundred meters out. I raised my binoculars and they went from being hash marks to being actual people. Green man had his back to me, but he was saying something, because both Jane and John were looking at him intently. There was a rustle at Jane’s feet, and then Babar popped up his head. Mom reached down to scratch him. â€Å"I wonder what he’s talking to them about,† I said. â€Å"They’re too far away,† Hickory said. I turned to it to make a comment along the lines of no kidding, genius. Then I saw the consciousness collar around its neck and was reminded that in addition to providing Hickory and Dickory with sentience – with their idea of who they were – their collars also gave them expanded senses, which were mostly devoted to keeping me out of trouble. I was also reminded that their consciousness collars were why they were here in the first place. My father – my biological father – created them for the Obin. I was also reminded that they were why I was here, too. Still here, I mean. Alive. But I didn’t go down that road of thought. â€Å"I thought those things were useful,† I said, pointing to the collar. Hickory lightly touched the collar. â€Å"The collars do many things,† it said. â€Å"Enabling us to hear a conversation hundreds of meters away, and in the middle of a grain field, is not one of them.† â€Å"So you’re useless,† I said. Hickory nodded its head. â€Å"As you say,† it said, in its noncommittal way. â€Å"It’s no fun mocking you,† I said. â€Å"I’m sorry,† Hickory said. And the thing of it was, Hickory really was sorry. It’s not easy being a funny, sarcastic thing when most of who you were depended on a machine you wore around your neck. Generating one’s own prosthetic identity takes more concentration than you might expect. Managing a well-balanced sense of sarcasm above and beyond that is a little much to ask for. I reached over and gave Hickory a hug. It was a funny thing. Hickory and Dickory were here for me; to know me, to learn from me, to protect me, and if need be to die for me. And here I was, feeling protective of them, and feeling a little sad for them, too. My father – my biological father – gave them consciousness, something the Obin had lacked and had been searching for, for the entire history of their species. But he didn’t make consciousness easy for them. Hickory accepted my hug and tentatively touched my head; it can be shy when I’m suddenly demonstrative. I took care not to lay it on too thick with the Obin. If I get too emotional it can mess up their consciousness. They’re sensitive to when I get overwrought. So I backed up and then looked toward my parents again with the binoculars. Now John was saying something, with one of his patented half-cocked smiles. His smile erased when our visitor started talking again. â€Å"I wonder who he is,† I said. â€Å"He is General Samuel Rybicki,† Hickory said. This got another glance back from me. â€Å"How do you know that?† I said. â€Å"It is our business to know about who visits you and your family,† Hickory said, and touched its collar again. â€Å"We queried him the moment he landed. Information about him is in our database. He is a liaison between your Civil Defense Forces and your Department of Colonization. He coordinates the protection of your new colonies.† â€Å"Huckleberry isn’t a new colony,† I said. It wasn’t; it had been colonized for fifty or sixty years by the time we arrived. More than enough time to flatten out all the scary bumps new colonies face, and for the human population to become too big for invaders to scrape off the planet. Hopefully. â€Å"What do you think he wants from my parents?† I asked. â€Å"We don’t know,† Hickory said. â€Å"He didn’t say anything to you while he was waiting for John and Jane to show up?† I said. â€Å"No,† Hickory said. â€Å"He kept to himself.† â€Å"Well, sure,† I said. â€Å"Probably because you scared the crap out of him.† â€Å"He left no feces,† Hickory said. I snorted. â€Å"I sometimes question your alleged lack of humor,† I said. â€Å"I meant he was too intimidated by you to say anything.† â€Å"We assumed that was why you had us stay with him,† Hickory said. â€Å"Well, yeah,† I said. â€Å"But if I knew he was a general, maybe I wouldn’t have given him such a hard time.† I pointed to my parents. â€Å"I don’t want them getting any grief because I thought it would be fun to mess with this guy’s head.† â€Å"I think someone of his rank would not come all this way to be deterred by you,† Hickory said. A list of snappy retorts popped in my head, begging to be used. I ignored them all. â€Å"You think he’s here on some serious mission?† I asked. â€Å"He is a general,† Hickory said. â€Å"And he is here.† I looked back through the binoculars again. General Rybicki – as I now knew him – had turned just a bit, and I could see his face a little more clearly. He was talking to Jane, but then turned a bit to say something to Dad. I lingered on Mom for a minute. Her face was locked up tight; whatever was going on, she wasn’t very happy about it. Mom turned her head a bit and suddenly she was looking directly at me, like she knew I was watching her. â€Å"How does she do that?† I said. When Jane was Special Forces, she had a body that was even more genetically modified than the ones regular soldiers got. But like Dad, when she left the service, she got put into a normal human body. She’s not superhuman anymore. She’s just scary observant. Which is close to the same thing. I didn’t get away with much of anything growing up. Her attention turned back to General Rybicki, who was addressing her again. I looked up at Hickory. â€Å"What I want to know is why they’re talking in the sorghum field,† I said. â€Å"General Rybicki asked your parents if there was someplace they could speak in private,† Hickory said. â€Å"He indicated in particular that he wanted to speak away from Dickory and me.† â€Å"Were you recording when you were with him?† I asked. Hickory and Dickory had recording devices in their collars that recorded sounds, images and emotional data. Those recordings were sent back to other Obin, so they could experience what it’s like to have quality time with me. Odd? Yes. Intrusive? Sometimes, but not usually. Unless I start thinking about it, and then I focus on the fact that, why yes, an entire alien race got to experience my puberty through the eyes of Hickory and Dickory. There’s nothing like sharing menarche with a billion hermaphrodites. I think it was everyone’s first time. â€Å"We were not recording with him,† Hickory said. â€Å"Okay, good,† I said. â€Å"I’m recording now,† Hickory said. â€Å"Oh. Well, I’m not sure you should be,† I said, waving out toward my parents. â€Å"I don’t want them getting in trouble.† â€Å"This is allowed under our treaty with your government,† Hickory said. â€Å"We’re allowed to record all you allow us to record, and to report everything that we experience. My government knew that General Rybicki had visited the moment Dickory and I sent our data query. If General Rybicki wanted his visit to remain secret, he should have met your parents elsewhere.† I chose not to dwell on the fact that significant portions of my life were subject to treaty negotiation. â€Å"I don’t think he knew you were here,† I said. â€Å"He seemed surprised when I sicced you on him.† â€Å"His ignorance of us or of the Obin treaty with the Colonial Union is not our problem,† Hickory said. â€Å"I guess not,† I said, a little out of sorts. â€Å"Would you like me to stop recording?† Hickory asked. I could hear the tremble on the edge of its voice. If I wasn’t careful about how I showed my annoyance I could send Hickory into an emotional cascade. Then it’d have what amounted to a temporary nervous breakdown right there on the roof. That’d be no good. He could fall off and snap his snaky little neck. â€Å"It’s fine,† I said, and I tried to sound more conciliatory than I really felt. â€Å"It’s too late now anyway.† Hickory visibly relaxed; I held in a sigh and gazed down at my shoes. â€Å"They’re coming back to the house,† Hickory said, and motioned toward my parents. I followed its hand; my parents and General Rybicki were indeed heading back our way. I thought about going back into the house but then I saw Mom look directly at me, again. Yup, she’d seen me earlier. The chances were pretty good she knew we had been up there all that time. Dad didn’t look up the entire walk back. He was already lost in thought. When that happened it was like the world collapsing in around him; he didn’t see anything else until he was done dealing with what he was dealing with. I suspected I wouldn’t see much of him tonight. As they cleared the sorghum field, General Rybicki stopped and shook Dad’s hand; Mom kept herself out of handshaking distance. Then he headed back toward his floater. Babar, who had followed the three of them into the field, broke off toward the general to get in one last petting. He got it after the general got to the floater, then padded back to the house. The floater opened its door to let the general in. The general stopped, looked directly at me, and waved. Before I could think what I was doing, I waved right back. â€Å"That was smart,† I said to myself. The floater, General Rybicki inside, winged off, taking him back where he came from. What do you want with us, General? I thought, and surprised myself by thinking â€Å"us.† But it only made sense. Whatever he wanted with my parents, I was part of it too. Crime Decreasing Issue Essay Example For Students

Crime Decreasing Issue Essay Society has other alternatives to decreasing crime than simply locking people inprison. Preventative programs focus on the community, school, family, employmentand places. In addition, there are rehabilitation and restorative justiceprograms that can also be used to decrease crime. Prisons are the onlyalternatives we hear about from politicians because of the notion that prisonsare tough on crime. In reality, the method that reduces crime themost is the toughest on crime, and many research studiesdemonstrate prisons are not the best alternatives. Over 65% of the peopleconvicted for 3-Strikes are for drug-related offenses. There is great evidencethat putting many 3-Strikers in rehabilitation programs costs much less tosociety overall than simply putting them in prison for 25 years or more. Inaddition, there are preventative programs that can be used rather than theprison cell. Each $1 we spend on prisons is a $1 that we could spend elsewhere(or not be taxed in the first place). The pro blem with only addressing crime bylocking people in prison is that it has done nothing to alleviate the roots ofthe problems that cause crime in our society. Other people are born and grow upin the same areas where the previous offenders lived and will probably committhe same acts because the underlying problems still exist. There is muchevidence that the gap between the wealthy and the poor is growing in the UnitedStates. Unfortunately, the U.S.s response to the problem has been: Therich get richer, and the poor get prison. To focus on street crime anddrug-related crimes can be considered a hidden way to set up concentration campsfor the poor and minorities. There is much evidence that white-collar corporatecriminals cause much more economic wealth to be illegally distributed and canresult in many more deaths and injuries than street crime (e.g., violatingsafety standards in employment, emission of environmental hazards). Does societyspend as much to enforce the laws on them? Are t hey sent to prison for the samesentences as the poor street criminals? Are wealthy users of drugs ending up inour prisons? The control and punishment models adoptedby the U.S. may cause other problems. Social rebellion and deviance among theyoung may increase. And, in an opposite manner, some of our youth may embracecontrol and punishment as the answers to all ourproblems. A growing devision among these two groups could cause extreme problemsin the future.

America Is A Great Place To Live. Unfortunately, Numerous Amounts Of P

America is a great place to live. Unfortunately, numerous amounts of people do not realize this. They take it all for granted. In America, from the day you are born you have many opportunities. You are a citizen from day one. At eighteen you can voice your opinion by voting. In America, everybody is treated equally. You have many laws to protect you and your rights. In many other countries people have no rights at all. In America we have the military to protect us, and fight for us in wars. We have the emergency medical assistance and hospitals to help us when we are hurt or sick. We have easy access to an assortment of medicines and doctors. In America, most people have an equal opportunity for education. Another benefit of living in America is welfare. If you do not have enough money to live, the government will give you enough so that you can get by. We are lucky to have an established, peaceful government. If you feel that your rights are being violated in any way, you can take the violator to court and get a fair trial. You, living in America, have the police force to protect you and a number you can call if you need help immediately. The most important thing that makes America great, the thing that people risk their lives to get is personal freedom. You have the opportunity to do anything you want if you work for it. In many countries what your parents are, is what you will be. Not here, you have the chance, if you take it, to excel in any way you want to. America; even with such a diversity of people we still manage to work and live together. I think that all these things together add up and make America the great place that it is.

Gun Control A Firing Issue misc essays

Gun Control A Firing Issue misc essays Gun control is undoubtedly an issue that most Americans have been exposed to. In 1989, guns killed 11,832 Americans. The National Rifle Association (NRA) members believe that it is their constitutional right to own guns, stating that guns are not the root of the crime problem in the United States. Gun control activists like the members of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) argue that guns are responsible for the majority of violent crimes that take place. They wish to instill many types of bans and waiting periods on firearms, making it nearly impossible to obtain a handgun. In fact, in 1993 the Brady Bill, which mandates a waiting period on buying firearms, was passed. Their arguments range from protecting children to saying that guns are diseases, but when one looks at the facts, though, the arguments of gun control advocates seem irrelevant and it becomes clear that guns should not be controlled. Gun ownership by private citizens is protected under the 2nd Amendment. It states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."" The forefathers of our country meant for the people to own and use firearms, and any law or control on that right would be unconstitutional. Gun control activists essentially believe the Second Amendment guarantees only to its militia the right of arms, but the "Gun control proponents have yet to identify even a single quote from one of the founders to support their claim" (Silver 78). The 2nd Amendment supports gun owners, and hard evidence that it does otherwise is nonexistent. Gun control advocates have been lobbying for 7 years for the passage of the Brady Bill, which makes a waiting period mandatory for all national firearm sales. Ironically, the passage of this bill in 1993 has done nothing to reduce crime; in fact violen...

Successful Communication in Organisation Research Paper

Successful Communication in Organisation - Research Paper Example Whether you are the manager or a regular employee at any organization, the better you communicate and interact with others –the better working relationships you will develop with others. It is important to understand that not all employees come from strong communication backgrounds and therefore new employees must be brought up to speed on the crucial communication methods (Guffey & Almonte, 2010). Effective communication is therefore built on some essential aspects or concepts that this paper is going to discuss. These concepts are crucial for any communication to succeed and accomplish the function it is intended for. The first concept is listening. This is paying attention to someone with who you are actively engaged in a conversation with. I believe that this is the most important concept in communication because individuals have to pay attention so that they are able to interpret the message from the sender of the speaker and provide feedback (Bovee, Thill, & Schatzman, 2 003). Poor listening will lead to the receiver misunderstanding a message or not getting the concept at all which is very bad in business. It is bad because chances of organization losing an opportunity that would have made a difference are high (Guffey & Almonte, 2010). ... Active listening therefore goes beyond the obvious and may also entail empathizing with the speaker and this makes you understand the speaker better and in so doing foster effective relationships which are essential in any organization. According to the Harvard Business Review, sensitive listening is the key to effective management and the busy executive spends 80% of his time listening. Psychologists say that listening is the greatest high touch value and this is because it gives the speaker a sense of worth. One may not be able to convince someone that you respect him by telling them so but you may be lucky in getting this message across if you behave in a respectful manner through active listening. Benefits of listening include improved office communication, better and improved relationships, cordial working environments and fostering peace and avoiding conflicts. The second concept is organizational culture. McQuail (2005) defines culture as a process but that it can also refer t o some shared attributes of a human group such as their physical environment, tools, religion, customs and practices or their whole way of life. It is therefore a set of assumptions that members of a given community share. Organizational culture can be defined as a pattern of shared basic assumptions that a group learned as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration that has worked well enough to be considered valid and therefore, be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think and feel in relation to those problems (Anaeto, 2010). An effective organization culture creates norms values and assumptions usually taken for granted but which exist in the day

Ten Hidden Truths in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair Essay

Ten Hidden Truths in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair - Essay Example This research will begin with the statement that â€Å"The Jungle† is an important insight into American history, more importantly, it unveils the hidden truths of workers’ life in Chicago at the beginning of the twentieth century. Usually, these truths remain hidden until late in a worker’s life and only exposed to him bit by bit. The bitter realities hurt the reader but Sinclair had to state them as they existed. Even today, the understanding of these truths is equally important because the exploitation takes forms to suit contemporary conditions. Following are ten basic truths identified from the reading of â€Å"The Jungle† by Upton Sinclair: Hidden Truth 1:  Ã‚   The reality of wonderful dreams. Jurgis, the hero of the novel had come to this land of opportunities – Chicago with so many wonderful dreams, but realities dawned on him when he was forced to starve in this land of high prices. He, like other migrants, had never thought of this cost ly life. The so-called high wages were quite insufficient to spend an expensive life in Chicago. The employers knew exactly, the tactics they had to employ to engage and cage the migrants. â€Å"A few days of practical experience in this land of high wages have been sufficient to make clear to them the cruel fact that it was also a land of high prices, and that in it the poor man was almost as poor as in any other corner of the world†. Hidden Truth 2: Cost of living a nightmare. Living in Chicago was no less than a nightmare for migrants. Jurgis and his family found it extremely difficult to pay the nine dollar rent while earning only little more than two dollars for a  twelve-hour job.   Buying a residence required fifteen hundred dollars with three hundred dollars down payment. The migrants had only two choices, either to pay rent forever or to pay the both; down payment and rent to own a house somewhere in the future. The interest-based economy had horrifying upshots o n the life of lower and middle-class worker families. However, the fact was deliberately obscured until the victim had been fully trapped. â€Å"You are like all the rest, she said; they trick you and eat you alive. They never sell the house without interest. Get your deeds, and see.† Hidden Truth 3: Superficial lifestyle lead to disasters. The first chapter of â€Å"The Jungle† is mainly on account of the wedding ceremony of Jurgis and Ona. The couple arranged this ceremony, which was beyond their resources, and it was the first brick laid wrong and the expenses incurred by the couple led to future disasters in their marital life.   â€Å"Most fearful they are to contemplate, the expenses of this entertainment. They will certainly be over two hundred dollars and maybe three hundred, and three hundred dollar is more than the year’s income of many a person in this room.† Most of the guest â€Å"sneaked off† either without contributing anything to the entertainment or only very meager amount. They knew what exactly the entertainment is going to cost them in the upcoming life, â€Å"do not worry—it will not matter to us. We will pay them all somehow. I will work harder.†. So, the superficial start of their marital life was dreadful and posed challenges and hardships for future life. Hidden Truth 4: The prejudice. Another untold story is the misery of living in humiliation. You lose all your confidence, and your children are born slaves. Even talking to a property agent had to come with so many cautions and concerns. All the lives they live apart and indifferent like aliens with gaps they can never fill. â€Å"To press the matter would have seemed to be doubting his words, and never in their lives had anyone of them ever spoken to a person of the class called â€Å"gentleman† except with deference and humility.

Lord of the Flies Symbolism Essay

Lord of the Flies Symbolism Essay The conch shell is a shell that means a lot more than just a beautiful white shell. It has great power and it symbolizes civilization and order. The boys on the island look to this conch as holding order in a crumbling society. The boys respect this conch in the beginning and no one can speak unless you are holding the conch. You will see how the conch, positioned high on a pedestal, but in the end, lays among the rocks in fine white dust. As the civilization and order on the island begins to erode, the conch shell looses power and this has a big influence on the boys. When they start to realize the conch is losing power, things will get out of order and jack is beginning to take over. Once Jack takes over, savageness is comes into play. The diminishing of the conchs importance in this story shows the start of the decline of the civilization on this island. When the conch shell is crushed by the boulder roger threw, this symbolizes the true end of civilization and the true start of a truly savage nation. The signal fire is another important symbol in lord of the flies. The fire seems to represent savageness and civilization. It is savage because it burns wildly and it is civilization in the sense that they are trying to get rescued. The fire at first is a symbol of civilization and order and because Ralph is trying to get rescued which symbolizes civilization. When the fire starts to burn out of control and one boy goes missing (the one with the big birthmark on the side of his face) this shows that the fire is becoming savage. The signal fire has many complex layersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ kind of like an onion. When the fire burns low or goes out, we begin to realize that the boys have lost the desire to be rescued and have accepted their savage lives on the island. The fire is ironic in a way that at the end of the novel, it finally gets a ship to the island. Instead of it being the signal fire it is the fire of savagery. The forest fire Jacks tribe starts as part of trying to hunt Ralph d own and kill him The evil within the boys has more effect on their existence as they spend more time on the island, isolated from the rest of society that represents the decline and is shown by Piggys specs. Piggys glasses represent civilization, science, and technology while they are trying to get rescued. Piggys glasses make the fire start representing the start of the civilization process, if that is what you want to call it. Without the glasses, they would not have been able to get rescued. They end up fighting over the gasses when the glasses were knocked off piggy and broken. That represents how the glasses have changed and how the civilization is starting to diminish. When jack steals the glasses this shows how savageness is taking over and how jack is taking over. Throughout the book, Piggy represents the civilization and the rules. As Piggy loses his ability to see, the other boys lose their vision of becoming civilized and being rescued. When the story begins, Piggy can see clearly with bot h lenses of his glasses perfectly new and the boys are still civilized. After some time passes, the hunters become more concerned with slaughtering of a pig than with being rescued and returning to civilization. Things are beginning to diminish. This is illustrated in the way that Piggys glasses are becoming more and more broken. It shows how in the beginning piggy could see clearly and things were civilized. Then when his glasses were knocked off, he could not really see and that shows how civilization is declining. When Piggys glasses are stolen, he cannot see at all which shows that civilization has completely disappeared. The beast is a thing that all the boys are afraid of, it is a product of their imagination. However, in reality, it represents the evil that lurks whit in all of us, which is causing life on the island to deteriorate. Piggy begins to say that the beast is just fear and Simon tells them, Maybe, maybe there is a beast what I mean is maybe its only us (p. 89). Jack states that the beast can take shape in any form, which is kind of showing how the beast can take shape in anybody. It is foreshadowing in how the beast will soon come out of the boys and start killing one by one. The beast changes from the beginning because it is seen as a thing but then later on they started to realize that the beast is within all of us. The beast cant be killed because it is in every single one of us. The beast is, literally a man that is not what Simon means when he says that it is only us. He is talking about the beast being the darkness that is inside each and every one of us. If this is true, then, as the Lord of the Flies later says, it is crazy to think that the beast is something you could hunt and kill. If it is inside all of us, not only can we not hunt it, we can never see it, never give it form and never defeat it. When Simon has his scene with the pigs head, the Lord of the Flies says to him, Im the beast. This makes simons other words true; you cannot hunt and kill the beast, because they have already hunted and killed the pig and it is still talking to you. Even later, when Ralph smashes the skull, makes the smile bigger, now six feet across as it lies grinning at the sky. This thing just will not die, and it torments Ralph so much, because it knows all the answers and wont tell. The boys are afraid of the beast, but only Simon realizes that they fear the beast because it exists within each of them. As the boys grow more savage, their belief in the beast grows stronger. By the end of the novel, the boys are leaving it and treating it as a some what god. The boys behavio r is what brings the beast into their lives because they are so savage. The more savagely the boys act, the more real the beast seems to become. Another symbol that is the presented in the middle of the book is the lord of the flies. The lord of the flies is the main theme of the book, hence the title. The lord of the flies is the head of the pig that the boys killed and chopped up. The Lord of the Flies is the bloody, severed sows head that Jack impales on a stake in the forest glade as an offering to the beast. They stuck the head on a stick and left it there for the so-called beast to come eat it. The lord of the flies symbolizes the devil or satan. The actions that the boys did to kill the pig was the last action that truly turned them to savages. That was the most savage thing they could have done. Simon has a discussion with the lord of the flies and it tells him that the beast cannot be killed and it lurks within all of us. This complicated symbol becomes the most important symbol in the novel when Simon confronts the cows head in the forest and it seems to speak to him, telling him that evil lies within every human he art and promising to have some fun with him. (This fun foreshadows Simons death in the next chapter.) In this way, the Lord of the Flies becomes both a physical picture of the beast, a symbol of the power of evil, and a kind of Satan figure who makes the beast come out within each human being. Looking at the book in the sense of the bible, the Lord of the Flies resembles the devil, just as Simon resembles Jesus. The name Lord of the Flies is a translation of the name of the biblical name Beelzebub, which is a powerful demon in hell that is sometimes thought to be the devil. The boys, have truly, been deprived of their innocence. They have witnessed that deep down inside there is a dangerous beast lurking there. The symbols help to show how the innocence is lost and how things have changed in their society. Golding is foreshadowing our lives. Slowly and slowly, we will become more and more uncivilized and the beast will come out and transform our faces and personality. The change in the symbols of the book shows the slow decline of civilization and the gradual increase of the savageness and the beast manifesting from within the boys.

Critique Of Pure Reason Essay

Immanuel Kant published his book the Critique of Pure reason in 1781; it could be noted that he used old fashioned and theological words in writing this particular book. According to most of the readers, his book was a difficult book because it was full of complicated terminologies however, because of the fact that the informations presented there are all beneficial, the said reading material has been one of the most sough after reading by several professors of philosophy and reasoning subjects. Kant had written the Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics after two years so that his readers will fully understand his book the Critique of Pure Reason because of its preempted complication as thought by the readers. Prolegomena is much shorter and much approachable when it comes to the style of writing compared to the Critique of Pure Reason. The author’s aim in writing the Prolegomena is to be able to specify the limit as well as the scope of the Critique of Pure Reason book. About the Book Kant’s philosophical method is under transcendental idealism, this is a philosophy, which is concerned with the priori, or intuitive basis of knowledge is through experience or in other words his philosophical method is mystical or supernatural. In the critique of pure Reason, Kant made an effort to create a science of metaphysics, mathematics, and even Physics. Summary and Content This book primarily talks about the different kinds of philosophy, different meanings, and brief definitions to the principle of science that leads to a brief argumentation of the authors’ theory and perspective. The major role of pure reason is to explore the power, and to study the limits of reason, this will leads to the extensive examining of the various activities of the mind. There are many activities considered in the article, some of it are the brief explanation about the study that the mind can receive information, which is not provided by the senses, and also that the mind can usually arrange sensory experience. The foundation of knowledge is very huge it can create various ideas that can be beneficial in part of philosophical theory; to easily understand the theories and perceptions given by Kant some of his examples regarding to his subject was given greater explanation. But Kant wanted to transform nature of reality and including the relationship between mind and matter into science thus in this situation it really awakes the power of speculation. Critique and Analysis In greater thinking by exercising and exploring knowledgeable things it always created critical criticism but in the same time developing its substance regarding to the philosophy and science, this will introduced different meaning as well as understanding to the society. The process of writing of Kant primarily made this notion possible to occur. Reference: Immanuel Kant. (1999). Critique of Pure Reason. Cambridge University Press.

Bullying Essay

The â€Å"peanut gallery† may not directly bully the victim, but by standing on the sidelines giving their attention to the actions they encourage they bully. Even though I am not a bully, I have been part of the â€Å"peanut gallery† that makes bullying an even worse situation. The â€Å"peanut gallery† are students that can make a positive change to stop bullying. As students, we can take action to stop bullying in our schools and I have some ideas to make this happen. I and a group of students would dedicate one week at the beginning of the school year to hold an anti-bullying campaign called â€Å"Bully Beatdown. The â€Å"Bully Beatdown† campaign would raise awareness to the issues of bullying. For the campaign kick-off, I would hold a rally for students to share their personal stories and experience with bullying. I would invite a counselor or a psychologist specializing in anti-social behavior to speak at the rally about the effects of bullying. Th e person could train students on anti-bullying tactics. During the â€Å"Bully Beatdown† campaign, I would have students perform skits acting out different bullying scenarios and ways they can stop bullying such as befriending a victim of bullying. To promote my campaign, I would pass out information flyers and pamphlets, buttons, and signs to post throughout the school in bathrooms, gyms, lunchrooms, and hallways. Another feature of the campaign will have students sign a social contract agreeing to not participate in bullying of any kind, to stand up for the victims of bullying, to not be a bystander to bullying, and to report bullying to teachers or a responsible adult. I would create an organization called â€Å"Bully Guardians† which is a community of students who act as a support network for students targeted by bullies. The students who were spectators to bullying can become a â€Å"Bully Guardian. † Many students are afraid to report bullying incidents they observe because they might become targets themselves. I would create an â€Å"Anonymous Email System† for those students who don’t want to report an incident in-person to a teacher or the principal. The student could send an email explaining the bullying incident they saw or encountered. After the campaign kick-off, I propose that each month schools devote a day to bully awareness and to report on the progress they’ve made to stop bullying. I believe my plan of action is practical and easy to implement in schools.
